Du Bist Mein Süßes Heimat
Electricity
about
This recording witnesses my first live contact with you after the lockdown times in Italy.
I knew it would be impossible to do a synthpop show complying with social distancing rules, so I decided to do an improvised ambient set and to call it #ionosphere, as an expanded version of a three-minute song with the same name I had written a couple of months before and never performed live yet.
The Ionosphere is a layer of the Earth's atmosphere which at night changes its electro-chemical properties allowing certain frequencies of radio communication over a great range: I thought it was a good metaphor to express a need of contact and nearness.
After three days of rehearsals in my home studio I decided what my starting points were, but I didn't want to have any idea of which destination these sounds would have taken me to.
A vocoderized haiku was the only written part.
All I knew was the machines' capabilities and the methods to control them, also allowing some electrical noises playing a significant role in the layers creation. Just the sounds in my hands to explore the dream. And a bit of courage, of course. Welcome to the #ionosphere.
